Going Off Road-With a Box for Entrepreneurs

From Richard Branson to Steve Jobs, entrepreneurs might be considered the defining business leaders of this generation. The attraction is clear: especially for many people who may work in large, faceless organizations, the idea of the entrepreneur – who literally creates a concrete business idea out of a vision – serves as a kind of idealized fantasy. Even for many MBAs, entrepreneurship seems to be all the rage these days. And why not? In an MBA program, participants pick up a wide range of managerial skills from organizational management to finance and strategy, all of which are required in the agile, cross-functional world of the startup. Even MBAs who might not know that they want to start their own businesses might take electives in entrepreneurship, perhaps out of curiosity. We look at some alumni who are serial entrepreneurs. Some of them have been great and amazing and some of them have been total disasters–but they’re willing to go through it again because they love it. You do sacrifice a lot to be an entrepreneur. Our culture has made it somewhat cool to be an entrepreneur, but the reality is much more difficult. You have to be prepared for that.   But many millennials aren’t put off by the hardships inherent in entrepreneurship. Instead, for the free-spirited generation currently entering the workforce, the allure of the entrepreneurial lifestyle often outweighs the negatives.   Although millennials often want to craft their own career path, that doesn’t mean they’re skipping out on school. Increasingly, aspiring entrepreneurs are pursuing MBAs instead of going it alone. For many would-be entrepreneurs who are doing MBAs, “practical” is the name of the game.    Indeed, many business schools have introduced a variety of MBA electives and other resources that help students put their skills directly to work. The Wharton School and the University of Virginia’s Darden School of Business, for instance, both offer business incubator facilities, while Rotterdam School of Management has a “Start-Up Bootcamp;” not to mention the numerous entrepreneurship electives offered by nearly every business school.   But do you need an MBA in order to succeed? What’s to stop somebody with a big idea to skip the MBA and jump right in?   One thing an MBA can do is expose students to the nitty-gritty of entrepreneurship, without the risk that normally comes with launching a startup in the real world.   And, luckily for the would-be entrepreneur, business schools are offering an increasing number of relevant courses. According to Sean Carr, the executive director of the Batten Institute for Entrepreneurship and Innovation at the University of Virginia’s Darden School of Business, MBA students at Darden have access to at least 28 entrepreneurship classes.   “These are highly experiential, hands-on courses across a broad range of entrepreneurial activities. Everything from finance to developing new ideas to marketing to operations and so forth” It’s an introduction to entrepreneurship, it gets students developing their thinking in a more entrepreneurial way, because we find even if students don’t want to go on and become entrepreneurs and start their own companies, a lot of companies are saying they want graduates to come with an entrepreneurial mindset. They want intrapreneurs, they want people within the company with that thinking.

Post Graduation in MBA or Respective Field

One with graduation might think of post graduation. Now question arises whether he should go for MBA in his own respective field or in some other. Like a BTech student should go for either MTech or MS similarly a BCom graduate should go for MA as usual or something else by switching his field like MBA.  It completely depends on your own personal preferences. If you go for your own field higher study than it will be completely technical. For example If an engineer goes for further engineering study then he will get only technical knowledge but if want to go for entrepreneurship then only technical knowledge can’t only make it work. Management will be a helping hand for them. So why not go for MBA. You already have your technical knowledge and management will be like icing on the cake. An MBA ie Masters in Business Administration  undoubtedly makes for a starred item in the qualifications list .There are convincingly many reasons for the observation . . Despite the fact , any aspirant must pinpoint ” Why to go for an MBA ?” and ought to have a distinct outline of how the MBA degree helps one groom ones career and opens a world of opportunities loaded with  monetary plus   professional satiation. As per several observations , there are  two types of MBA aspirants .For one , we have those who have just completed their graduation or are in their final years .Secondly we have those with some years of work experience targeting to reach their maximum potential in their professional life. Apart from diplomatic and politically correct answers that are presented before Interview and Admission Committees , the underlying intent that moves most aspirants towards MBA is monetary ambitions or some sort of dissatisfaction with their current jobs. No doubt we manipulate words to shield this short term and limited perspective , we need to have a more value based and well-thought-out reasons to pursue an MBA. An MBA is a major instrument to break Career Stagnation ,ie, a stage in one’s career when you have professional experience and substantial calibre to seek new verticals in one’s career but you find yourself undifferentiated in the herd of lesser professionals who came into their operational roles years after you . MBA lends singularity to your credentials thereby satiating your craving to have a recognition in proportion to your experience. MBA equips one with the ability to change career tracks smoothly . One acquires a window to withdraw from current profession and switch to another role or even another industry which would be virtually impossible with your current education ,role or experience. MBA is an eminent source of innovative ways and ideas towards enriching one’s knowledge . It trains an individual into an expert in the stream he wants to specialise in by dint of various programs like case studies , presentations project studies and research papers .The interaction and intellectual debates with the professors and peers are extremely enriching.   An MBA from a B-school of high repute serves as backbone to ones network .It means you will always be identified as a part of high achievers .An MBA from a reputed business school gives you the opportunity to network with smart talented people who will hold top strategic positions in major companies or will be strong business leaders one day . An MBA  is therefore certainly a feather in your cap . But an MBA from a top B school is an even brightly colored feather !  It imparts a brand value and serves as a guarantee to recruiters that you are competent to become a successful leader in near future. At the end of the day  it is all about your passion your career and your long term goals but the worth of an MBA in pocket is definitely a distinction.

What to do After MBA?

MBA already a diverse and so widespread field. There are tons of opportunities waiting for an MBA graduate. One may wonder or get confused regarding what to do after being graduated as an MBA. One may think of campus placement in an MNC or some may prefer family business also some may  feel to execute their innovation in the form of start up.  There is a obvious point in almost everyone’s life where one feels stuck in deciding the path of their life. Some may have family pressure of joining family business or may have excitement and passion of doing something on his own to which we call start ups. It’s pretty common that we want something from our life but the people associated with us wanted to fulfil their expectations and perform in our own life as they want. Try to avoid and completely protect yourself from this trap. It’s your career and life, you should be the only driver of it. Initially it is quite obvious that one tends to get fascinated with the trend of entrepreneurship and have in mind to start his own company. Mind it , a joke or play is not going to happen. Unknowingly we do get attracted towards the trend, but it is  keen essential to face the reality and meet the truth. Start ups are not created in one night. It is not like you wake up one day and say  I want to start something of my own and just leave all other stuff and begin towards non-directional path. I am not at all against entrepreneurship. My point is that don’t go into someone’s influence or just by following someone else do not indulge yourself into a job which you do not really want. If you have a proper idea and plan then yes go for it. If really there is something you want to do and you have worked on it with proper research then who is stopping you. Go for it! Pitch your ideas and plans and do not think of something else just believe in yourself and your passion and just do it. Give all of yourself for your actual dream. Another aspect comes of family business. There are many from business background. Again I will say know your interest and then work on something. Joining family business is not a bad idea. be boss of your own without any boundations. A con of family business is that if you do not have any prior working experience then it could be a danger sign. Before sitting on boss chair it is key important to understand and work like a worker and get deep understanding of each and every part of your organisation. It is better if you go for job for a year or two and then join your business. Management is all about common sense and experience.  Experience never gets wasted. Jobs in MNC through campus placement is always in the list. Do prepare well and focus on your skills rather than on your degree. Whether you want to do job or not, at least go for interview. It will let you meet real you and you will get to know much more about yourself which you even cannot  discover else where. It’s your life. Do what you want to do ,just remember all your decision should be your known. Choose the path wisely and do what brings out the passion in you. One wrong decision can make you suffer life long.

One Cannot Be A Corporate Leader in A Day

Here I want to clarify to you all that managerial skills are not acquired in a day. Also if one say that I have completed my MBA and now I am an expert in management. Is it so? No, not at all. Just completing a degree do not make you a pro. The degree is just a piece of paper which proves that yes you are eligible and have capability to perform well. Managers or corporate world is not interested in your grades or the University from where you appeared. It is just a criteria to shortlist candidates. No one bothers if you are from a local college or from a well known school. At last all what matters is how efficient you are and can you be an asset for organisation or not. No one is going to pay to one just for fun. Corporate World runs on common sense and  bit smartness. Bookish terms and languages look good in books only. Everyone wants practical knowledge , which cannot be achieved just being in classrooms. To be good at your work you must definitely need to flip your classrooms. Go out explore the world, a lot more one can learn outside  the classroom. It is easy to discuss while sitting inside four walls but lot more tough to act in reality. Experience is the key which makes you capable and different from others. The more work experience you have the more you will be able to analyze situations and act upon it. No one wants to know your qualification, it’s just for self satisfaction. All a company requires is your knowledge and skills. If a full fledge MBA Topper is not able to handle company crisis or cannot guide his team then what is the use of that MBA topper to be there. There are many who are good with their knowledge but cannot make any use of it, it’s also useless. To be corporate leader you need to be all-rounder. A person who knows how to make instant- decision, one who do not panic in crisis rather go for solutions. A good leader is always one who takes his team with him and also do motivates them and also be with them. All these is a constant learning process. As one never knows all the aspects of life and cannot predict all the situations. Same is in corporate world, it  requires you to be accept new challenges and use your experiences, common sense and also your instinct to act upon it. No one wants a hard worker all what is needed is a smart worker. To be ready for corporate leader start from very early phase. Be a part of various projects, also you can be in extracurricular that can help you with a must qualities like leadership as well as soft skills. Try to implement what you learn and what you read as much as you can. As Actions are what matters at last. Without implementation of your idea or any decision one cannot say what outcome will come.
